Food & Cuisine
Vanuatu's cuisine is a delightful fusion of Melanesian flavors, fresh seafood, and locally grown produce. Laplap, a national dish, is a must-try – it's a pudding-like dish made from grated root vegetables (like yam, taro, or banana) baked in an underground oven with coconut milk and meat or vegetables. Fresh seafood is abundant, with grilled fish, lobster, and prawns being popular choices. The Port Vila Market is a fantastic place to sample local fruits, vegetables, and street food. For a more formal dining experience, restaurants like L'Houstalet offer French-inspired cuisine with a Vanuatu twist, while Mangoes Resort Restaurant provides stunning waterfront views and a diverse menu.
Nightlife
Port Vila offers a relaxed but enjoyable nightlife scene. Several bars and restaurants along the waterfront and in the town center stay open late, offering live music, happy hour specials, and a lively atmosphere. Popular spots include the Waterfront Bar & Grill, known for its live music and harbor views, and the numerous bars and clubs along Lini Highway. For a more local experience, check out some of the smaller bars and clubs frequented by Ni-Vanuatu residents.
